Cucumber, Tomato & Avocado Salad, A Summer Favorite Your Hormones Will Love

Hello beautiful,

There’s something about avocados in the summer that just makes everything better. Creamy, satisfying and packed with the healthy fats your hormones need to thrive.

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite summer salads, cucumber, tomato, and avocado. It’s fresh, colorful and built on one of the most important nutrients for hormone balance.

Why Avocados Are a Hormone Hero

Avocados are one of the most beautiful foods you can eat for hormone balance. Here’s why:

🥑 They’re rich in healthy monounsaturated fats — the exact kind your body uses to build hormones. Estrogen, progesterone, cortisol and testosterone are all made from cholesterol, and healthy fats are the foundation your body needs to produce them.

🥑 They help you feel full and satisfied — which supports steady blood sugar and calmer cortisol. Blood sugar balance is one of the most important pieces of hormone balance.

🥑 They’re loaded with potassium and magnesium — two minerals that support calm moods, restful sleep and healthy blood pressure.

🥑 They’re a source of vitamin E — an antioxidant that supports healthy skin, hair and cellular health.

Avocados are also gentle on digestion and easy to add to just about any meal. A quarter to half an avocado per meal is a beautiful serving size.

The Recipe

Cucumber, Tomato & Avocado Salad

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb roma tomatoes, chopped (optional — omit if you don’t tolerate nightshades)
  • 1 English cucumber, sliced
  • ½ medium red onion, sliced
  • 2 avocados, diced
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro, chopped (or fresh dill if you’re not a cilantro fan)
  • 2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon (about 2 Tbsp)
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Directions:

  1. Add the chopped tomatoes, sliced cucumber, red onion, diced avocado and cilantro to a large salad bowl.
  2. Drizzle with olive oil and fresh lemon juice. Toss gently to combine.
  3. Just before serving, toss with sea salt and black pepper.
  4. Serve right away for the freshest flavor.

Always use organic ingredients whenever possible.

How to Make This a Complete Hormone-Balancing Meal

This salad is a beautiful side dish on its own, full of healthy fats from the avocado, low-glycemic carbohydrates from the cucumber and tomato and fresh herbs and citrus for flavor.

To make it a complete hormonally balanced meal, pair it with a healthy animal protein. A few of my favorites:

  • Grilled chicken
  • Wild-caught salmon
  • Grass-fed steak
  • Grass-fed ground beef
  • Shredded rotisserie chicken

Remember, a hormonally balanced meal always includes three things: healthy protein, healthy fats and healthy carbohydrates. This salad brings the fats and carbs, you just need to add a palm-sized portion of protein.

A Few Tips

  • Use ripe avocados. Slightly soft to the touch is the sweet spot. If they’re rock hard, let them sit on the counter for a day or two.
  • Add the salt and pepper right before serving. This keeps the vegetables crisp and prevents them from getting watery.
  • Best enjoyed fresh. This salad doesn’t store well because the avocado will brown. Make it just before you plan to eat.
